BFF

Going to a photoshoot without a theme in mind is quite challenging but fun at the same time. Geared only with photography gadgets and zero creative concept, and after a couple of postponements, I went to Tokyo one summery-spring afternoon. One request I had though is that the shoot will be done outdoor since I will depend much on available / natural light. Akemi, Tommy and Niki were already preparing when I arrived. The weather was gloomy though, posed as a threat to our shoot and started to drizzle. We had no other shoot but to continue. And since they call each other BFF (I think it's best friends forever), I played with that idea and it served as the shoot's general theme.

Both of them didn't mind the weather and the location thus the shoot went on smoothly. Most of the locations were found on the spot as I wasn't able to do a check prior to this session. Sometimes randomness is good too.

When the models are enjoying every minute of the shoot, the photographer likewise enjoy the moment. It removes all the stresses and worries of taking photos. The way they project is an indication of the friendship they have. Natural and real.

How I wish the weather was cooperative but nonetheless it was a blast shooting these bestfriends. Hats off also to Niki who did a good job as make-up artist. There were two more sets but natural light wasn't available anymore. We even used the car lights as light source. That's how I avoid using external flash.

It was really a fun shoot that I forgot to eat the pasta prepared by Akemi. Until next time, summer-theme shoot is preferred.

  4. I can see just how comfortable you all must have been. It looks like you took in just enough light. Their smiles are gorgeous and, obviously 'stitched to forever', as you say. What a healing thought, using friendship as a fortress.

  8. i love your photos John, though I can't relate shooting people like this but i cannot deny the fun and engaging photos you have, really excellent shots. by the way, there is really no perfect season visiting US, yes, summer may be the most expensive time to travel here since everyone is on vacation, but it depends if you get a deal sometimes :) but it really depends which ones you wanted exploring, if you just want to stay in cities, then, that is year round i guess, but if you want to visit national parks, then, they have their best seasons
